Thane (Thana), a metropolitan city in Maharashtra, is also called "City of Lakes". The city is surrounded by 35 lakes; it is nearby Mumbai and is the part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Thane had the first passenger train in Asia which was introduced between Bori and Thane. In the present day, it is the busiest train station of the state. The Kopineshwar Temple is the oldest temple near city. The famous Sanskruti Arts Festival at Upvan lake is hosted by the city municipal corporation with the help of Maharashtra Tourism Development Board.
