Bhavnagar, also known as the Sanskari Kendra or the cultural city, is a coastal region in the state of Gujarat. Maharaja Bhavsinhji Gohil established a new capital for himself in the year 1723. In 1807 the city came under the British Raj and finally during Independence, the last ruling Maharaja of Bhavnagar, handed over the administration and the city got merged with the rest of the Indian Union.
