Formed on 25th May 1998, district Barwani is surrounded by Satpuda and Vindhyanchal forest ranges in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Earlier the city was surrounded from the “forests of Bad” in old times. The old word for Garden is “Wani”, together which formed the name of the town Badwani, which means Garden of Bads. Still pronounced as Badwani, it is spelled as Barwani.
